How did I get started in writing?
I've always loved to read. Ever since I was little, I devoured words—anything I could get my hands on. Back of cereal boxes. Doritos bags. If it had letters, I was reading it. But it wasn’t until eighth grade when my teacher, Mrs. Andrews, introduced me to something that would change my life: free writing.
She explained it as simply grabbing a pen and a piece of paper and letting your thoughts flow—no editing, no structure, no pressure. Just write. And baby, when I tell you I fell in love… it was over. That was it for me. That’s when I started filling notebooks. I’ve been writing ever since.
But fast forward to 2020—that’s when something different happened. That’s when God pivoted me.
Now, I’m not entirely sure how this all came together, except that I know it was God. I had no real plans to become an author, but somehow it unfolded beautifully. My first book, Love and Relationships, was born during that time.
What most people don’t know is that there’s a deeper story behind it.
It started around late December 2019 or maybe January 2020. I was trying to get my daughter to sleep, and all of a sudden, this song popped into my head—right in the middle of the chorus. I didn’t even realize what it was at first. But then I figured it out: Jagged Edge – “Gotta Be.”
No big deal, right? I listened to the song, my daughter went to sleep, and that was that.
But the songs kept coming.
And I don’t mean in a casual way—I mean they wouldn’t stop. If I tried to ignore it, the songs would just play louder in my spirit. Eventually, one of them hit me hard—I believe it was “Promise”—and I just started crying. Not because I was sad, but because I realized something: I want someone to love me like this. I wanted that kind of love again.
Up until that point, I was healing from heartbreak. Love wasn’t even on my radar. But somehow, God used Jagged Edge's music to reawaken something in me—hope. I didn’t just want love again, I wanted wholeness. And I truly believe that God used their music to start healing my heart.
So I prayed.
I asked God to allow whatever blessing was tied to Jagged Edge’s music to come through me. I didn’t know what that meant yet, but I stayed in prayer. And then one day, it came to me: a game for couples called No Lip, No Debate.
The idea came together while I was listening to one of their songs—I can't remember which—but Brandon said something about “no debate,” and it clicked. “No lip” came from that idea of not arguing just for the sake of it. It was all about better communication and connection. And suddenly I had a whole concept.
By that point, I had already started writing a book, but it wasn’t finished. And I’ll never forget this one moment—I was standing near the ledge between my kitchen and my living room, and I kept hearing, loud and clear in my spirit:
“Finish the book.”
It got so loud, I started saying it out loud.
“Finish the book.”
“Write the book.”
So I did.
And by July 20, 2020, Love and Relationships was officially released.
But that’s not even the end.
In September, by the grace of God, I ended up speaking with Jagged Edge directly. See, back then they had a podcast/radio show, and the week before September 17th, I listened to an episode. Right after it ended, God told me:
“You’re going to call in next week and talk to them.”
I was shook.
I had anxiety the whole week just thinking about it. But I obeyed. And sure enough, when I called in, the first time the line dropped—there was a storm in Atlanta. I almost gave up. But I called again, fast, and this time I got through.
I got to talk to them. I shared my game. I sent it to them. They gave me a shout out on their episode on October 28, 2020. And that moment was a full-circle testimony that only God could orchestrate.
