Embracing the Author Within: Reflections on My First Networking Event
11.2.24 I attended my first networking event as an author.
I received an invite via email, and honestly, I was surprised because I don’t advertise myself as an author as much as I should. For me to receive this invite was unexpected, and I felt both surprised and honored.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get any pictures of myself at the event—I completely forgot in the excitement of the moment. Being there allowed me to actually see myself as an author. It affirmed that I was supposed to be in that room.
What I would definitely do differently next time is truly be in the moment. I was so overwhelmed by the hour-long drive and the whole process that I didn’t take a moment to breathe and fully appreciate being there. I also didn’t take any pictures, and that was on me.
Often, as writers or as people pursuing their passions, we question whether we’re on the right path. The encouragement I want to offer is this: if you’ve been given the invite, GO. More than anything, that invite is an indication that you’re meant to be there.
